30 Day Blog Challenge, Day 5: My Guilty Pleasure

Pumpkin Pie, Autumn, Holiday, Baked, Delicious
Look at this picture. Then look at the
next one to the right.
This is day 5 of my thirty day blog challenge. If you want to read the previous four, just scroll down. Today's topic is my guilty pleasure. I have to admit that this is a struggle for me, not because I don't have a guilty pleasure, but because I have a hard time picking one. So, since I get to make up the rules anyway, I'll not pick one. I'll pick three.

Blizzard, Person, Escape, Way Home, Winter Storm
Get it?
Food: This is definitely Dairy Queen Blizzards. Most of the year, I'm a generalist. I like Reese cup and banana split a lot, but strawberry cheesequake is a happy thing too. But when it's available, I'm insane over pumpkin pie. I get at least a dozen of them during their short run in the fall. Sometimes (okay, almost always) I'll go by myself and eat a large. It's nearly enough to make you black out. I'd say that's two distinct signs of addiction.

Pair, Love, Luck, Romance, Mood, ChristmasTelevision: Hallmark Christmas movies. I know, I know. They're such dreck. And they follow the same formula every single time. Two people don't get along. Then they're thrown together by some cause or crisis. Then they fall in love. Then one of them gets some sort of information about the other that's either incorrect or partial. Without bothering to ask any questions and usually with no explanation, the first person will leave and the second person will nobly live with the ignominy until the first person, having heard the truth, walks back in just in time for Christmas Eve. Cut to the wedding. I get so angry at them but I just can't stop watching them! And yes, I cry. I own it.

Movie: It's hard for me to pick just one horrible movie I feel guilty admitting I secretly like it. I think I'll have to settle for Roadhouse. It's the movie that almost singlehandedly ended Patrick Swayze's career. It has every corny one-dimensional character you can think of, but I just really like it. It has one of my favorite lines of any movie ever. When the beautiful doctor offers to give Swayze's character a local before she stitches up his wound, he says, "Pain don't hurt." How can you not love that? And it has the single dumbest way I've ever seen someone get killed in a movie. Patrick Swayze's character, fighting the martial artist henchman of the gleefully evil antagonist, wins the fight by ripping the other guy's sinuses out. No, I'm not kidding.

So what are you guilty pleasures?

  1. Oh My Gosh! You watch the Hallmark channel! Now I have to read your books... A sensitive guy too! Good Lord, the women must flock all over you! But if you are one of those N. Sparks sorta writers, I might change my mind about you. Just kidding. I read too many spy books...Seriously, I am already liking you more and more with each post! Now if you only had a mole like JohnBoy Walton.. Oh heck, who am I kidding. I would be a very bad influence on you. I am a mess and free spirit! Ask my husband! He will warn you! Those nuns did name me after a hurricane! Now go write tomorrows post. I can't wait to see what is next!

  2. Haha, John Boy is one of the reasons I became a writer. And I HATE Nicholas Sparks books! But I'm a hopeless romantic to be sure. I've often joked that I've been the woman in every relationship I've been in. The first one, that was almost literally true. She left me for a woman.

    2. I am surprised by that! Maybe I will pretend to be a shadchan. You never know but I am not Jewish. I had a Jewish lawyer as a child but I don't think that counts. Hey I am going to make a list of films for you. Oh and read this book. Letters from Skye by Jessica Brockmole. It has a writer in it and a bit of romance. Going to read the new blog post now. Goodnight Johnboy

  3. In fairness, it isn't just Hallmark's Christmas movies. It is all of their movies. How do I know? I've seen almost all of them at least once. Maybe I got that from you.

    1. Sometimes I think they take the Christmas movies, change the season and names, and just make the same movie again.

    2. Very true about those movies. Some authors are the same way. Shocked and stunned about the woman! You're a cutie for sure! As for films, I am into those French independent films lately. Afternoon with Margarette is a must. As soon as she gave him a dictionary, I lost it. Now that is a great movie. Must go through my romantic movies tomorrow. Well good night Johnboy...

  4. Oh you would love living where I do... I live about 100 feet from Dairy Queen. Looking out my picture window is Dairy queen and Houghton Lake in the background, I myself am not an ice cream lover, an occasional heath blizzard works for me. The grandkids love how close it is. I am also a sucker for Hallmark movies, all year long. Sappy or not I still watch them all.

    1. I would definitely love it, but not for long. I'd be dead of an exploded heart.
